September 2020

There has been no new development with coronavirus situation. It feels like stalemate but with an invisible opponent. We still have adults infected and infecting others. Even though wearing a mask is now mandatory, many people are not wearing it right: a) only covering the mouth b) taking it off in confined spaces such as a tram and c) taking it off to talk on a mobile phone. Now we are seeing people who display no infectious symptoms are infectious.

August 2020

The climate to date is more or less the same, just with additional movement restrictions, where activities cannot be conducted beyond 5km and a curfew between 8pm-5am. I have informed my friends and family members that Stage 4 lockdown will take effect as of Sunday 2nd August, 6pm. Many didn't take it well. Sad as it is, the reality is the number of new cases are sitting in the 600s and not really going down like the first Stage 3 lockdown. Majority of it stems from Aged care facilities staff, low wage casual staff who come to work unwell, and large social gatherings (e.g. house parties). Apparently, those who were infected and waiting on test results failed to remain home and get well. This lead to more community transmission.

WFH

Besides lots of Zoom meetings, the librarians and I have being working on a video series with stories that was once an Ask-a-Librarian inquiry. I am learning to create stories to be shared on YouTube. I have sourced a fair few resources such as sound effect. Adjust the sound to background level was a bit of a learning curve. I did not know iMovie does not have a sound equaliser.

PoGo.

We all do remote raids these days. The most popular one is Gible T1 raids. I am learning to create multiple lobbies. Where you invite 5 players to the lobby and once they are in, I leave and wait 200 seconds, then create another lobby and invite another 5 players. One gotta skill up during these times and be more resourceful.

Remote raid is not so bad. I learned to created multiple lobbies for people. With the current state of affairs and the rate of egg hatches, one hour is not enough to find your ideal raid boss, let alone defeat it. This is the new norm.

There needs to be status to give people an indicator you are busy in another raid or catching the raid boss.

I have started to cull the list of players who do not send gifts or send raid invites. Exception of trading is not possible these days due to restriction to movement.

Professional networking

Falling to the wayside. I need to get back on the horse.

July 06, 2020

July 2020

We had more outbreaks during the ease of lockdown restriction compared to the beginning of the lockdown. Partially has to do with the fact it is winter now. Although, the most shocking news was families were not practising social distancing at all. So, we are starting to hear more and more the term community transmission daily. Sad. People should take this pandemic seriously and take every precaution necessary. We now have 12 suburbs in lockdown and two in hard lockdown (one with housing commission residents).

My sister and I wear a mask in dense human-populated areas such as shopping malls, supermarket, public transport, and day time in the city.

Meanwhile, at home, my brother has resigned from his job, citing a conflict of pay and workload. He is bored. The house needs repairing, but he is not interested in fixing it. He wants to start up a coffee shop during the lockdown period. My reply was, most people cannot leave the house unless it falls under the four activities, and the government can enforce the closure of non-essential businesses. I don't know if this is the best time to be running a coffee shop, especially when he doesn't wake up to have lunch unless it is 3 pm. Generally speaking in most cities people have their coffees in the morning.

PoGo wise. We have lots of new exciting events to celebrate the fourth year of Pokemon Go release. I can't believe it. I have been playing this game for four years! Time flies when you are having fun. So many new friends, so many new milestones. Together we morally support each other to get through this pandemic and adjust our playstyle in compliance with government restrictions.

I find myself fasting more than usual. I need to learn to eat at regular times again. My family members have gotten in the habit of having waking up in the afternoon and having lunch at 3 pm. Besides the fact, it is not healthy. My body doesn't like it. I get hungry and dizzy if I don't eat some protein by 1 pm. I now keep cans of tuna and protein bars in my room.

June 2020

People are so willing to bend over backwards for love, even when the person no longer loves them anymore. People are strange and I hate wasting my brain space on them. However, this time one of them tried to fuck up my game during in my leisure time and a day before community day. Which only comes around once a month!

My mood became foul and my anger would not subside for days. I'll explain below.

This nearly turned out to be the third worst community day for me. Generally, a day before the community day, I would like to go out and stock up on resources. I would collect 1200 red poke balls for SuiGunesis and 1000 ultra balls and 150 berries for myself. However, I didn’t get a chance to do that! Someone held the account ransom for her ex-boyfriend who may or may not show up at her doorstep.

Let’s fuck up her mood before community day. It is just a shit pokemon with a shiny version.

I only get to play a few hours a night, as I work from home, and there are no poke stops nearby, so I have no choice, but to go out in the evenings and collect resources to play at home.

Let’s make sure she can’t earn gold coins from daily task and gyms.

On top of that raids ends at 8 pm every day for the last four years. I explained to her. Nowadays, to earn your 20 gold coins, you have to “win a raid” unless it is a day where you do not have to, but this day was not one of them. You are holding the account ransom so I cannot help it earn 20 gold coins. Is that what you want? Do you even know how to play Pokemon Go? In the end, I managed to do 15 mins of play - raid only.

You adore me, show me and give all your legendaries.

No lucky trades transaction take 4 hours to complete. At most, they only take 2 minutes. Every player is to negotiate what they are exchanging in messaging apps before meeting up in person. Well, this person refuses to follow the community of players’ protocol. It pissed me off.

They didn't carry out the lucky trade in the end, because I had done the special trade that very day. O’duh. Hence, why players booked such trade session.

Kick her while she is down.

The guy does not understand lucky trade is not a once-off. You can trigger it again and again. Also, it is not limited to legionaries and shines. You can trade normal/rare spawns and regional (provided you had one previously). The ex-boyfriend stated the non-legendaries pokemon were a load of trash. Ugh. Excuse me?! Deino and Gibles are NOT trash.

I didn’t come home until 1 am. I was so mad at them both. The two years that I have spent on that account was a waste of time. After much thought, I have decided to forgo the pokemon go account. It is not worth the hassle.

-----------------------------

On the actual day itself I had to leave the house early to collect resources. No sleep in for me. My friends and I had a good time catching weedle. We wanted pvp IV ones for great league and a hundo for ultra league.

The very first shiny I got from incense had decent pvp IV on it. I was so stoked. I drank hot chocolate while looking for the 0% weedle. It despawned before I got there. Oh well. I found a Chansey, but Blissey despawned before I can reach it.

While having a light meal with Michelle we traded some pokemon and I got a hundo Weedle. Omg! Feeling so blessed.

26 shinies.
4 decent pvp IV ones
1 hundo

What a day.

----------------------------

Work wise, we are given the option to come into work on designated days, however, if you do not have a desk shift, it is best you work from home was the recommendation. I do not have desk shifts until 27th June. I will see what protocol are to be followed now that the government has made new restrictions on the amount of people per square metre.

I am learning to be a moderator for showcases and webinars. How interesting.

May 06, 2020

May 2020

Cabin fever anyone?

Working from home has become my new norm. Most mornings the draft wafts in through the house and causing me to feel sick, but by the afternoon I am fine. Strange. At the same, it has taken my body a while to get into the routine of waking early again and attend meetings on time. You can get a bit lazy when working in your pyjamas.

Meanwhile, I have been doing an online course on genealogy: researching your family history through University of Strathclyde. I have discovered professional practices in the field of family history research.

It starts with thinking about why records were created and by whom, and who existed depended on time period you are seeking, and what was documented and for how long. After that who does take over the ownership? Lots of questions. However, once you got that thinking style down pat, you perform better when researching records, that may or may not exist. I tend to seeking indexes before going to specialise databases. Not everything is online, but you can access staff and get help from them.

GPS is not about navigation in family history research, instead it stands for Genealogical Proof Standard, and there is a 200 page book on it too. Which I will pouring over it for next few weeks since I have finished the course. The homework were reasonable and the quizzes were good challenges. I feel my foundation knowledge of family research is developing quite nicely now.

Onto leisure, I have ventured out to parks that are new to me, and they are beautiful. Of course, the playground and gym areas have been cordon off. I would visit these parks on weekends and after medical appointments to give myself a bit of green therapy. I would play a round of Pokemon Go.

Many of the players in my community asks, "how can you go outside and not get fined?" Yes, we are advised to only go out under 4 main activities and I do go out on my own to medical appointments, exercise, and supplies (mostly medicine due to recent accidents). Pokemon Go is not my main activity, it is more or less a subsidiary activity that runs parallel to the four main activities. I only go out if I am 100% fit or 90% fit with a stubbed toe/hyper-sensitive teeth. I make sure I have nothing contagious that could harm anyone.

It is interesting to hear people thought the government would fine them for stepping outside of their house just to get to letter box. That is absurd and I don't think we have such a intense surveillance at this point in time. At parks, I see people jog, ride bike, play footy, and have picnics together. Um? No one has gone up to them to give a spot fine. So, ... where did this fear stem from? This is Australia, not Asia or Europe. Every city have different lockdown measures and we need to adhere to them accordingly. There must be a spread of misinformation going on within society. As for I, I only read official documents.

Onto mobile gaming, Niantic has does a splendid job of adding features for Pokemon Go housebound players. Your buddy will now fetch you gifts to give to friends and fetch poke balls on community day. Incense will now last an hour and has increase spawns. Allowing you catch more pokemon while at home. Also, you can remote raid from home, if you reside near gym. However, you will need to coordinate T5 raids as that requires 4 to 5 people at the very least.

When people reach old age they are consumed with regrets. Instead of regret it once, it is habitually becoming a daily occurence for some people. They are so unsatisfied with their current state of affairs. Me? No regrets. I did what I set out to do. It is called achieveable goals. I don’t like chasing unattainable goals. Why do people torture themselves?

The lockdown has made people stir crazy. They break traffic laws, ill mannered, and spreading lots of accusations. No you got the virus, no you got the virus. Ugh. When are self testing kit going to be made available?

April 18, 2020

April 2020

The cold chill has kick in and my gutter cannot handle the heavy rain coming down on the house.

We are now onto the second month of Stage 3 lockdown. Where you are only out if it falls under the four activities: shopping for supplies, medical appointment, work, or education if necessary. Otherwise be fined $1625.

Currently, there is no vaccine to date and no exit strategy. One thing that has changed is non-Asians have come to wear masks while they are out and about. At least, they stopped being judgemental towards Asians who do wear a mask.

Meanwhile, I have been working from home for a while now. I only go out for exercise and shopping. We have to go back and forth to get supplies since supermarkets have restricted purchases one to two basic items only. This is due to the panic bulk buying that took place earlier in March 2020. My MacAir has been a work horse since mid March. It does everything from answering enquiries to video chats with work colleagues.

I have come to appreciate my local parks more. However, I cannot be out there for long periods of time. I do try to keep in touch with all my friends just so they don't feel left out. This lockdown is a form of isolation or prison like living for single people who live alone and kicked out of a job, because their employer cannot afford to hold onto the staff during this lockdown period.

People who have corona virus have been found to still have it even after 14 days and after recovery if they have received treatment. This containment method only serves to slow down the spread of it, but it doesn't get rid of it.

March 26, 2020

March 2020 - Sydney

Our trip to Sydney was organised a year in advance. Who knew we would be flying during COVID-19 pandemic period. Really. Refund process is a painful process.

Friday 20th March 2020

Virgin Airline gave us popcorn and juice for snack. I watched a short animation called The Girl and the cat (directed by Ervin Han, Bernard Toh) and Judy. The flight was just an hour. We disembarked and checked-in to our hotel. It felt like a long day, but it wasn't. Unpack and slept.

Saturday 21st March 2020

My sister didn’t feel like waking up early or go to the Paddington market. We didn’t leave the hotel until 12 noon. She wanted to eat lunch at the Museum. No idea how to get there by public transportation. She didn’t feel like walking either. Later I found out her newly purchased shoes has hurt her feet. Oh dear. Who goes and buys a new pair of slip on runners on the day they are about to fly. There is no time to break in the shoes.

Thinking on the fly. We decided to catch a light rail (tram). However, we missed our interchange stop - China town. We were suppose to switch to another light rail line. Sis said it was my responsibility to tell her. I’m like what? You are an adult learn to listen to announcements.

The Power house museum only had a small floor space for Cue: 50 years of Australian fashion. The exhibit looked at the main marketing campaigns and  key looks only. My sister was so disappointed that it was not the entire collection/stock of everything created in Cue. Exhibition curators like to tell a story and this is the story they have chosen to go with. Only took 5 mins to go through it.

Only a few people roamed about the building. The Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson exhibition was pretty and insightful. I have seen the knits before, but I have never seen the party gowns, and it was fun read the back story of how they came to be a dynamic duo.

After the museum, my sister wanted to buy super glue for her new shoe. The sole has come lose you see. Off to the Daiso she goes. I wanted to shiny check some pokemon. Then two raid eggs were about to hatch. Sadly, I could only make it to one. The raid was located at old tram line area and there is an underground walk way. Neat. Sis only saw stairs and didn’t want to see what’s on the end of the rainbow. Well, I did and there are pathways leading to major streets avoiding traffic upstairs. Score!

My sister was bored by this point. She got the glue and some inserts for her new shoe. I suggested she try Share Tea’s bubble tea. Large size just $5. She had the Tiger one (with brown sugar) and I had matcha milk. She felt a little better. We went to Central to sit down and drink. I missed every available gym slot and T1 raids at this point. My sister felt bored, uninspired, tired, and wanted to have an early dinner and go home to sleep. Possibly play her online game. She didn’t want to walk anymore. Yet she didn’t want to go home on her own. Ugh. I recommended we take a tram down to Circular Quay and see who’s open for dinner.

Lots of tourists here hanging out and dining. People still take photos by the Opera house.

Loo break time at Circular Quay. Then I walked over to a T5 raid at The State Library. A few players here. Spoofers too. We found a Mexican restaurant on Elizabeth St near the library. There were had tacos for dinner. She wanted dessert else where. Charlie rabbit dessert bar in China town. Hidden in a mall. Pretty hard to spot. She found the Matcha mania a bit too bitter for her liking.

I did T1 raid and tried to battle Arlo but her pogo account ran out of potions.

Since much of my back up plans were rejected and skipped. There is nothing really much to go on with.

Sunday 22nd March

Sis didn't want go to a beach or visit a zoo. Sis didn’t want check out from the hotel until close to 11am. She rather sleep in some more. By 10:50am we checked out. I went to bash a gym and get me some PoGo gold coins. Yay! Something productive at least.

Got to Circular Quay and she shuns the take away shops. Ugh. We walked to the Botonic garden and she said it was too sunny for her. I can’t tell the sun to tone it down. The Calyx was closed apparently. No high tea for us. But she didn’t want to check out the other two cafes in the garden. Scared that they might be closed too. She scurries off to Myer. I went back to Circular Quay and had my lunch at food court with air con. Someone kindly put down two PoGo lures. Sweet.

Got myself a Green Grin juice. My system feels over stressed for that 48 hours. I need to recoup. I don’t like having to come up with a new plan every hour, it is tiresome.

I went to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music do a T5 raid with a few players, before heading back to the Royal Botanic garden, as I have never being in there before. It is pretty. The views are gorgeous. No afternoon tours though. No paddle pop ice cream either. You can get hot chocolate and sit by the benches near the pond, which has eels in them.

Then our time is up and off we go to the Airport.

PS. I will book an indigenous walk next time. I want to learn about native plants of Sydney.

March 2020 - NZ

Off to visit our first city in New Zealand, Auckland. It was chosen on the basis it was the one closet to Hobbiton. My sister loved Lord of the Rings books and the movies.

5th March 2020

The economy seats had cushy foot rest that can turn into a bed. Well, if you can afford three seats in a row. For lunch I had beef rang dang and Sis had chicken penne. I managed to watch some movies: Doctor Sleep and The Farewell (half of it). From the last movie, nio nio me me means uninterested shrug yet shy. Eh? A traditional saying, I want to learn how to use it.

The airplane landed pretty late. Jucy Snooze hostel was located up a hill, near Emily place, it took us a while to drag our suitcases up the hill and up several flight of stairs. We checked-in immediately and I went to complete a T5 raid, and then went in search of dinner. Several of the restaurants we wanted to dine at had closed down. So, we settled for Madriaz (Spanish) and had tapas.

6th March 2020

I had a good sleep. We went for a light brekkie with sweet cakes at Amano. Headed down to the pier for our Auckland Free Walking tour. Our hosts Olivia and Kurtis were friendly and informative. Majority of the tourists did not make a booking and many of them flew from UK or Europe. The city is so hilly. Interesting Lorne Street is like their version of a tiny China town.

We tried Hanoi Cafe and it had over priced simple dishes. Then we went shopping on Queen Street and proceeded to walk up the hill towards the Skytower. Where I did two T5 raids before we went to do our Skywalk. Scary fun! Our host was friendly and kind. Overall, we managed to successfully completed 5 challenges on a circular grid with no rails. Whoa.

7th March 2020

We slept early the night before. We walked to the Skytower hotel to be picked up. From there we drove to Piha national park camping ground. There we changed into our bathers and wet suits. Later we geared up, learned to flip shape of 8 ring, types of rope holding positions, and practiced what to do if we eventually fall. We hiked up the mountain to the top of the waterfall and it was pretty crowded. People were jumping into the pool of water, sitting on the edge of the water/cliff, and a small group of us were trying try do abseiling.

The 54 metres of the waterfall section was by far the most slippery and had very few rocks for your feet to latch onto. No nooks. Just slime. I slipped and lost my footing, dropped 1.5 metres the rope riddled against my sides, I did my best to steady myself, but it was a difficult course. Not for the faint hearted, I’d say. We did 75% of the course and did not proceed any further. The last section involved swimming under water in a dark space.

By the evening my sister and I had a sore back, sore calf muscles, and left arm riddled with misquote bites. The water was nice, but short lived.

Ken Yakitori for dinner. Feels like we never left Japan. Yummo.

8th March 2020

Again we slept early the night before. We walked to the Skytower hotel to be picked up. The staff took us to a portable office unit for the bridge climb and bungy jump. Apparently, I weigh 55 kgs. No where near 60 kgs. Well, it ain’t no zipliner, so I am fine. The walking underneath the bridge and above the water was partly scary. The grills was the only thing that separated you and the water.

Bungy jumping. You can feel the g-force on your face and feel the wind pushing against your body. Then you swing and hang upside down. It feels great. Thank god we have trained staff to bring me back up. Felt amazing.

The bridge climb was filled with historical and factual information. The bridge is composed of two extra flexible moving sides. internet cable and supplies water to the city. A multi purpose bridge alright.

9th March 2020

A resting day.

The Thai food place was super salty. All appetisers were served with carrot and sweet chilli sauce. Bland. The Mojo cafe at the gallery was disorganised. They served Sis a fork to eat her cake when her cake requires a spoon. Auckland city has so many trainee staff everywhere.

Queen Street by the Civic Centre is just as busy as downtown. The lobby for PoGo was small just 6 players. Geez.

YoYoSo retail store is similar to Miniso. The Only difference is the city store has these Pop mart collectible toys. Surprise blind box stuff. I shook a few boxes myself before settling down to one. Boom! It was the one I wanted after all. Wow. Who would have thought. Me? Also, I purchased two lightening cable surprise blind box as well. I couldn’t help myself. They were so cute.

They have David Jones here. Woolies is called Count down here.

Westfield shopping centre in Newton is trying to emulate Japanese department store with roof top dining. Most of the dishes were salty. The patrons here tend to drown it with beer. That’s how bad it is. People come here for socialising, not so much the food.

10th March 2020

Glow worm cave day tour day. 2 hrs drive. Just the 3 of us. Dozed off most of the way.

The worms resembled green LED light. Interesting creatures. They have a self sufficient eco system. They drop these lines from the ceiling to catch their preys. When they are tired they actually switch off.

Smartphone and GoPro or any camera of the sort were forbidden as it ruins the ambience experience said the guide. Not for the worm, but for the humans. Hey, the cave ceiling had the same amount of glow as the stickers in my room, I can replicate cave experience with a raft of my own. That’s what it looked like. But I wanted to capture how these animals huddle up against each other and how some turn off/on their lights. I’m sure David Attenborough would have documented it. I’d watch it via the Internet as per usual.

If you like Adelaide then you will like Auckland. Where you cannot top up your travel card at bus stops, only at train stations. And all tourist operators are anti GoPro. They only do still shots. No live video or Live Photo’s. They can’t stand action shots done by an individual. The experience are not immersive. Backwards really. Some have OH&S issues. Why would you take a person feeling dizzy up for a bridge walk? Shouldn’t you hike up the bridge then do the bungy jump?

On ride back to the city, we saw vast amount farm land. Much of trees were gone. Barren hills. No plants. Maybe a few cows here and there. You can easily mistaken it for Tasmania.

The gift shop by the pier opens later than the nearby restaurants. The marina area had skateboard ramps. How odd and cool. Lots of bars down here.

11th March 2020

Raining in Auckland today. As drove deeper into farmland it got sunnier, especially in Matamata. The place may have lots of cows, but they serve microwave processed meat in their burgers. Probably, all of its produce is reserved for exporting purposes.

Rotorua infamous for:

  • Mud - skipped
  • Geyser - skipped

Once we got to the skyline. We asked how much do we have to play around here. 45 mins apparently. To get to the luge ride, we took a gondola up the hill. From there, we left our bags with our driver and proceeded to claim our first ride (part of the tour). Luge is like go kart but it has more sophisticated controls and setup. We chose to go down the scenic route and intermediate route. It was fun alright. Just by letting go of one hand you can lose control of the steering. This place has dedicated cameras to take still shots of while steering a luge and on the chair lift back. You often had to slow down at the corners and there are heaps of them. Not enough time to do the advance course which opened up later on.

Note: The 4G cellular reception is poor in Rotorua.

The Hobbiton 2 hours tour was filled with reminiscent scenes from the movie The Hobbit. Anecdotes to the books and movie magic. Even quiz questions. Endless photograph opportunities. I even got to drink cider in The Green Dragon Inn. Sis had ginger beer.

Back in Auckland. Where the rain has stopped. We went around gift stores to look for noise making kiwi bird toy and Sis found it. Then we had dinner at Crab shack. Yummo. Finger licking good.

12th March 2020

Lunch at District 5 (a Vietnamese cafe above a carpark). Then got shunned, not stunned by Giapo. App only purchase they said, no pay wave available, and that they were closed at 2pm despite white folks were eating in front of their shop. We could not afford to waste anymore time. So, we caught the INN green bus to Auckland Museum, and boy, did we just made it the last cultural performance of the day. Phew. It was most educational and insightful. We feel content. A side of New Zealand that we wanted to see and cannot find it in the city. Exception of carved pieces of jewellery.

Kia ora can be expressed in three different ways. Hi (flagging people down). Thank you (hands by the heart). Be safe (waves). Wow.

Dinner at the Marina. Oyster and chop. Windy. The seafood was good and the truffle sauce was delicious.

13th March 2020

Time to fly home. Left luggages with Jucy Snooze after check out. We had bagels for brekkie before ducking down to the Maritime Museum to go for a sail along the harbour on a heritage scrow, Ted Ashby. The sun was shining on us and the water was crystal blue. No sea creatures came by though. We did see two people do the bungy jump from the bridge and two competition ships sailing past. We had a bite at Burger Boy for lunch. Talk about spicy sauce. A quick visit to Davenport chocolate before picking the luggages and catch the sky bus to the airport.

There was no one at Auckland airport custom to check our temperatures and upon arrival in Melbourne it was the same deal. Customs was more focus about dried food and wooden pieces.

March 2020 - Corona Virus peak

The accused

Corona virus fear has taken over Victoria. My work place was fearful I have it because my sister and I had came back from Auckland (New Zealand) on the 13th March 2020. Two managers advised that I go self-isolate, otherwise the organisation will be fine and I will be fined for not following the newly issued government mandate. I understand employers have the right to exercise caution, but sending one staff home when several patrons and staff had come back from Europe between December 2019 to March 2020 is a bit rich.

I rang my local doctor, he said do not come in since I was heathy, he recommended I stay away from the work place using statutory declaration form if that makes the employer feel at ease. So, I have decided to take stress leave and I had a Victorian police officer sig off on my statutory declaration form. I also rang the Corona virus hotline and they said I will not be fined, as my return date falls outside of 15th March midnight. So, I am allowed to go wherever I please. Phew.

Note: no employer have no right or clause to force you to see your local doctor for whatever reason.

During my weekend away in Sydney, one of ex-colleague thinks I have corona virus as well. The ex-work colleague thought I was in Tasmania when news broke out state border lock down was coming into place. I said over and over, I was in Sydney for the weekend and not Hobart. Last I checked, Sydney is in New South Wales and not Tasmania.  I have not visited or met up with this ex-work colleague for well over two months now. Fearing for nothing when we don't even catch up is stupid. Hysteria has hit all time high alright.

Reality of an ill prepared society

What most people are unaware of is the lack of border control or temperature checks at airports. My sister and I went through both Australian and New Zealand airports and we could not see any tools used to detect corona virus. There were no officer to screen people disembarking the aircrafts either. Where are the preventative measures?

People who has the corona virus were told to voluntary self-isolate themselves without medicine. Whatthe? Why is there no self-testing kits? No pre-packaged medicine handed to the infected. Just told to practice social distancing! How does that get rid of the virus?

At present, there is still no vaccine, and in the meantime, no one is fighting to get the flu vaccination.

Leisure gone down by the wayside

Hotels, bars, casinos, theatres, cafes, cinemas, gyms, and swimming pools were told to close up shop. This is reduce the spread of corona virus. People are urged to stay home and to work from home. However, many businesses do not have an online presence or produce online wares, so instead they let go hundreds of staff. People were made unemployed within 24 hours. Now many people cannot pay their rent or mortgage. Possibly homeless too. Centrelink is overwhelmed by this point. Also, there is no universal wage in Australia, so many people are stuffed by the government's mandate to close all non-essential businesses.

Game is work in itself

Pokemon Go game world was rocked when the first ever community day was cancelled, as WHO organisation recommended that there be no gathering or events with 500+ people during this pandemic. Then it was down to 100. Now even small gatherings of any sort is not encouraged. Then Ex-raids were cancelled. However, Go Battle League does not have the same feel as raids or community day, that social element. You could not use your free raid pass in Go Battle League. Moreover, players started to run of poke balls from being stuck at home. I was so tired after each day trip while in NZ, that I didn't write any suggestions to Niantic, not until I came back from Sydney that I managed to write up a convincing argument asking for discount priced poke balls and more items to drop from gifts. Phew. Niantic fulfilled my request. I may not be working in my actual job, I am working furiously to get players that support they needed in PoGo.

My friends and family are safe and fine. - - -

February 2020

Good news. It has taken a while, but I managed to get an internal role in another team. Wow. The journey was well worth it. You really need to sell your skills and values verbally around here. I am happy to be part of a welcoming team and I hope to grow from there on. I am now a new graduate librarian.

In Pokemon Go, I am having issues with PVP as I have not being building my team through out the year. Not winning much battles. Gonna have to sit down and re-think how I want to do this. Not that important as the pokemon encounter is same pokemon that you can come across in the wild, only one or two is exclusive.

Once I get well, my two goals for the year are: get my green P and become a savvy reference desk staff.

January 2020

The year 2019 has ended, but much of the confusion at work continues. I did one more internal job interview in this new year, and then from here on I will focus on shifting to another industry. Since there will be more IT, event, exhibition, and marketing staff than there are of in terms of library technicians and librarians in cultural institutions. So, unless you become a coordinator of some sort of project your services are no longer needed. Worst part it isn't automation taking your job away, it is so called "budget" or as some say "misuse of budget". Which ever way it goes, I need to plan studies that will further my career and help me remain employable.

The bush fires were intense and damaging to all. For several days the haze would cover the city. People decided to stay away from the city and remain home because of the constant bad air quality.  One evening the clouds carried ash from the bush fires, and came down through rain,  by morning Victoria was covered in brown powder. Meanwhile, postage services in Canberra was suspended for a week or two. Then there was the news of Coronavirus outbreak.

I caught a bad cold from a tourist who had coughed at my sister and I on Swanston Street. Trying to recover is the hard part with this heat, coordinating repairs, and teaching work colleagues legacy work practices.

I have yet to sign up to driving lessons.

December 2019

Summer is delayed apparently. The air is still crisp and chilly. Only at lunch time is it sunny and warm in Melbourne. By 6pm the clouds have come into force and the temperature has dropped.

My old team shrinks further more this month. One more work colleague was retrenched. We have no choice but to think of ways to ease the work load burden and time pressure outputs.

PoGo world. I have been having dinners with friends and drinking bubble tea. While laughing at pokestop recommendations in Wayfarer.

November 09, 2019

November 2019

No life is not peachy.

Weather wreaking havoc

With the climate change and all the weather remains in winter mode in Melbourne. I am still wearing my thermals and my umbrella is getting a beating from the rain and wind. Amazingly enough just last month from a random shopping outing I scored a water-proof feather down jacket from Uniqlo. How fitting. However, the air is densely filled with pollen. so, my nose is runny and my eyes are burning. It makes attendance to outdoor events a challenge. I have burnt through several tissue packets. Crazy I tell ya.

A few more months and 2019 comes to end. Work has been a roller coaster ride with emotions strung low and high. Each month a team member of mine leaves, not by choice, but outed, as the new restructure has no role for them. All the newly created roles are for people who "design" stuff at coordinator level. We are now seeing talented staff refusing to come back after leave, many have chosen to resign or retire. Young and old. One shining light, is my new team is very welcoming and happy to accept me into their wing. That is very comforting.

October 2019

Nothing but odd thoughts this month.

The noise in the public streets of the city. Some of us, adults, get to a point where nagging becomes a turn off and sometimes pisses us off, but what counts as nagging? Sometimes it is just a warning, a statement repeated out of courtesy or carried out due to policy.

Work front. I learnt that with internally advertised jobs, it isn't always a case of shoo in, even if you do possess the necessary skill set, management still insists on externally advertising the job. Bias? I do not know. What I do know is the work place is not keen on training people up.

PoGo world. Halloween event has us bursting at our seams. I have managed to encounter many of shiny pokemon ghost type pokemons new and old, just Shuppet who eludes me. I did get the chance to do two Ex-raids at lunch time with a small crew: John, Linh, Michelle, Daniel, Harris, Riche, Byron, and Peter. It was fun. We came across a Cranidos too. The committee is thinking of packages for volunteers and first time visitors to Melbourne.

Sis and I attended Spooktober scare sessions and it is glorious.

September 2019 - Uluru

Sep 22

While waiting at the airport, I played Pokemon Go. Don’t you just hate it, when you drop a lure and your character drifts away from it. Boo.

In Sydney, ibis birds would walk around everywhere. We were eating a packet of French fries in Circular Quay and we accidentally dropped some chips on the ground. Silly of us. The bird was able to distinguish the difference between a cigarette butt and chips. We watched it decide and saw it picked up the chips. I was most impressed by its ability to adapt.

The MCA cafe really has the perfect view of the Sydney Opera House and the harbour bridge. In the one corner you can see both of them. My sister and I had lovely time eating lunch there. Just slightly ruined by poor service. They mixed up our drinks. Took away our table number stand, when the food has not been served. By noon the cafe was packed out and most of the patrons mainly ordered drinks. We are the odd one out. That explains a lot. I managed to squeeze in 2 x T5 raids, one with little kids at the State Library and one at a fountain by the park. No shiny MewTwo though.

My sister and I went back to the hotel to properly check-in and have a nap. By 3pm we headed back out to the city. Unfortunately, Sportsgirl shop no longer resides in Pitt street mall. It has moved to Wyndham station. My sister wanted to buy a phone case but we only had 30 mins before all the shops would close. I did one more T5 raid on George St, and again, no shiny MewTwo. But I got a 98 IV one. Not bad I guess.

We had dinner in Glebe. Faijita Flying sisters. Trio dip (cheese with kale pen is the best), fried taco brisket with potato, and mango soft shell taco was sweet. The corn cob and watermelon salad was so so. My sister found the area to be a bit too dark for her liking.

Sept 23

Flying from Sydney to Ayers Rock, we watched John Wick: chapter 3. Took a nap and the plane hasn’t arrived, then we realise there was a time difference. Argh! We both felt tired as we got off the plane. After we had checked-in, we took another nap. By the time we woke up, we have missed out on all the free tours in the afternoon. With nothing better to do, we went to Gecko’s cafe for dinner. We had an outback pizza (kangaroo & emu) with crocodile ribs. Walked around the town square and sussed out their IGA.

Sept 24

5am in the morning. We waited for our tour bus to arrive. With so many buses stopping by and no staff to control the crowds. It was more or less a self-serve check-if-your-tour-bus has arrived. I had to duck in and out and ask staff, am I on your list? It was 9 degrees. Cold. We both wore sandals to sunrise tour for Field of Lights. Nuts we were. It even rained on us. Other tourist wore active wear and duck feathered quilted jackets still felt cold.

Up close, the field of lights resemble neuron connections. From a look out point, it was white light bulbs across a paddock. By then the sun has risen and colourful lights were turned off. We had hot chocolate with some cookies. Aaron the bus driver entertained us with stories of snakes and lizards coming out from their hideouts in search of water after a day of rain. Also, he kindly took some happy snaps for us.

Upon arriving back at the hotel, my sister went straight to bed. I went off to meet up with other hotel guests for a garden bush walk tour with Leroy. I learned about the difference between native trees from the wester desert and gum trees originating from interstate, the latter depends on water or they would die and collapse on you.

The native fig and quandong was a highlight. Good food come in small packages. Quandong tree is hemiparasitic and needs a host tree nearby, or it would sprout 3 trees from the ground to support itself. When you see pods on the white cypress tree means they have found underground water. Desert oak tree release resin to sop fires burning it. The pods from the desert oak carry a sweet taste like a marshmallow. At the end of the tour, I grabbed a piece of fig and a quandong for my sister.

After dropping off the native plant at the hotel room, I set off to do one T1 raid for my sister’s account, and it was all they way across the dirt road to another hotel. I asked my sister to meet me at the Kulata Academy cafe for lunch. When I got back, both the Gecko’s cafe and Kuala Academy cafe was packed out. Phew. We got a spot.

A quick browse at the post office and souvenir shop, we went to Wintjiri Arts + Museum to listen in on bush food experience s(free activity). Only bush plum and honey grevillea are the two fruits I did not see in person. Apparently, they have just beginning to flower. We got the chance to sample short bread with roasted wattleseed served with rosella strawberry jam. Yum.

We stayed and watched an astrology documentary narrated by Geoffrey Rush. There is a big emu in the northern western sky. Ooooh! CFS kicked in and I missed half of the footage.

Evening sunset tour of Field of Light was just as cold and windy as the sunrise tour. I had two flutes of bubbly wine and triple serving of the blue cheese puffs canapés. It kept me happy for a while. My sister and I took pre-sunset pics. Smart. This time chose a shorter route. Smart. We didn’t want to miss the only two buses that would take us back to the hotel. Smart.

Sept 25

Uluru the rock is located within a national park and it costs $25 pp for entry. Even if you want to jog or ride a bike there, you have to pay for entry, and yes, there is a yearly pass.

The segway tour was bloody awesome. We got to see and hear the stories behind the shapes, rock formation, engravings, and shapes that make Uluru. So many hidden gems. There are two sections of the rock are off limits to photography. Towards the back and the big lips (a cultural taboo between the genders). Here we saw a head carved into Uluru (okay for snaps). The uneven, rocky, different sands, and bush made the segway tour all the more fun. Loving the rugged pathway. The segway held up its weight in gold. Flawless.

Kyle our segway tour host told us how much he missed Maccas, Krispy Kreme, and Kmart. Sure we laughed with him about it. But I can see how it can be a big of lifestyle change. There is only the IGA and a post office for budget retail therapy. Not much junk food sold in this area. The nearest city is Alice Spring and it is a 500 km drive from Ayers Rock resort.

The helicopter ride was short but we got the chance to see the top of Uluru. It was a spectacular view and my first time in a helicopter. A good choice indeed. The helicopter can fit 6 people. The seat belt was unique. You had to rotate to unlock it. The pilot pointed out the east side of Uluru is the indigenous community’s residence.

Sound of silence (food experience). After canapés and two flutes of bubbly wine I was tipsy. A second evening with a sunset view of Uluru. This time we aimed for smoked kangaroo canapés. I got the chance to see the planet Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, southern cross, and the Milky Way. Wow, Plus the big emu in the sky. Upside down, but I got to see it. Extra wow. The host had a really good sky pointer. Superb! Nothing like a cup of warm tea to smooth the belly from over eating. Hee hee.

What I did notice was the tours were held on the west side of Uluru. We are encouraged to take snaps during sunrise and sunset and according to the guides, it so that the cultural images on Uluru would be covered by shadows from the clouds.

Sept 26

The breakfast session at Gecko’s cafe was over and lunch served until 11am. Due to time constraints we had lunch at Kulata Academy cafe again, but this time we sat outside, as it was nice and warm. Behind the Emu walk apartments was a communication tower labelled emu look out. Umm. An interesting poke stop.

The 12 noon airport transfer bus arrived at the Ayers rock airport on time, but the queue to check-in was super slow, and we only just made it in with 12:50pm. Geez. My sister went off to buy emu jerky for bro and dad. lol. The departure lounge was too small to fit the amount of guests flying out. The queue went far back as the toilets.

Dropped our bags and went into the city. There we got off at Museum and onto Liverpool street. I was putting away my smartphone in my denim jacket and I fell down a short flight of stairs in World Square. I ended up cutting my left knee and bruising my right knee and ankle. I told my sister we still had 30 minutes to spare, there is no need to rush to the dinner reservation. I hobbled all way to Chippendale to try out Bubble Nini fresh pearls tea. Nearly all the stuff on the menu was sold out. My sister had the hot matcha and I settled for the brown sugar one. The pearls were not hard rubbery as most. So yeah. Nice.

Sept 27

5:50am I checked-in and at the bag drop the machine refused and issued a receipt stating my bag was two kilograms over. The service desk then told me my 7am flight delayed until 1:35pm. They offered to switch us to the 11am flight, I said sure, and they waived the fee for the check-in bag. That flight was delayed as well to 11:55am. It wasn’t just us, Virgin and Jetstar was cancelling and had delayed flights. Something is fishy here.

Both my sister and my butt are sore from sitting down for so long. Nearly all caught up with my tweets. Nice to be back home.

September 2019

As luck would have it, while I am successful in catching 200,000 pokemons in PoGo, my career is on hold. At the very least, I have few internal job interviews lined up this month and next month. However, it feels like I am standing still and everything is moving at a snail pace. I want to go for a dip in the ocean and float away my worries. The wind is cold. I cannot bring myself to immerse in cold water. There are swimming pools, sadly, they do not come with a view like ocean pools.

There has been some disruptions and development in the social aspects of playing PoGo.

I had no choice but to delete a particular individual and all of his 5 accounts from my friend list. For weeks, the player would ask repeatedly, "why do you do research tasks?", especially the Sneasel quest. He even asked the same question on community day when I was evolving my hundo and 98 IV Turtwigs. Argh! God! I explained to him, I don't need his shiny Sneasel(s), I already got one, but I would like a few more as trading fodder. It seems this player doesn't respect my style of play and so he was deleted. This is the third male player that I had to seriously erase from my life and my game.

On the upside, I have made a few new friends this month.
