Japan DEC '08 - JAN '09

23 December 2008 : Melbourne to Sydney, Sydney to Narita, Narita to Tokyo.

After catching our Q.domestic flight from Melbourne, in Sydney we transfered from Q.domestic terminal to international terminal to line up at JAL check in counter. Luckily we did not encounter any of the usual Qantas woes mentioned in the news throughtout the year. Brekkie was fulfilling. Juice tasted odd and banana was greenish raw. We transfer between terminals via bus service. The entry to international terminal from the bus transfer was dismissal. JAL airline long flight left my butt sore. lol. Sue slept first. ha ha. We watched 3 movies: Mummy 3, House bunny, and Hell boy: Goldern army. OJ with rice crackers for snacks, chicken mushroom potato for lunch, and egg salad sandwich for dinner. We got the chance to see over Cairns, Indonesia, Phillipines Islands. Slept through the flight when bypassing Taiwan. The flight landed safely.

Quickly exhanged money and bought Suica card-NEX ticket package smoothly. Tokyo station was full of moving people in all directions, many had set directions and never have the need to the time/tv/board except for tickets for a particular destination. Everyone used Suica card. After pre-purchase our Shinkansen Kodama to Shin Osaka fare, we took JR Chuo to Suidobashi and checked in Sakura Hotel by 8pm-ish. Off to Tokyo Dome City and snapped lots of Christmas light decoration to our heart's content. Ran sacked through every kombini (convenient store) on Suidobashi ave and found onigiri, sandwich with cheese mayo wasabi (a funny combo). Sakura Hotel room was freezing cold, we slept badly and shook uncontrollably. Lets say we didn't bring the right gear.

24 December 2008

There is always several train officers on the platform for shinkansen trains. Also before boarding the train the cleaners would line up on the platform preparing to board and cleaning the next arriving train which was an impressive sight. The Kodama is infamous for being slow as in 5hrs to reach destination like Shin Osaka, however, for us 1st timers to see what each station and place was amazing. eg. Shin Fuji station. we got the chance to see Mount Fuji from our seats within the train. Shin Osaka was a HUGE station and heaps of other Shinkansen trains would terminate there as well. We took the subway to Umeda then transfer JR Osaka to Fukushima. However, we boarded the wrong train which went in the other direction and ended up in Tenma. Ha ha. Caught the train back to Osaka and took the right train to Fukushima.

Buying ticket in Japan was a learning curve. First you select standard ticket for subway, then insert money, press on the two people icon, and choose ticket value say JPY 230. Tada, you now purchased a subway ticket. The machine also issues day passes, area passes, express train tickets too.

We hanged out at JR Osaka station, Daimaru (whom we miss so much), Hankyu dept store, Hep5, Est and Namco. We each purchased stylish warm jackets from L.A.G and Sweet B under JPY 9K. Plus socks 3 pairs for JPY 1050. When trying on clothes 'shichaku dekimasu ka' you have to remove you shoes. An interesting custom. Also when paying for goods you place your money in the tray/dish on the counter and not in people's hands. The sale staff were kind to us despite my bad pronouciation. We saw lots of styles and products of brands not seen in Melbourne, such as Anna Sui, Burberry, Cynthia Rowley, etc facial wash towel, winter gloves, ticket holders. Very extensive in range. Not too pricy either.

Takoyaki are served soft here and I learned to how to say 'take away' when ordering food. People don't eat and walk here for real, not even on the train except for Shinkansens. 'Supa' = supermarket has really great food whether be snack or pre-cut sushi in bento box. Sue and I stocked up on onigiri and sandwich for breakfast, pocky sticks for snack, and drinks. With every meal you get a toothpick. Thank god, JHopper Hostel room had a/c which could warm the room up for us. Slept without shaking cold.

25 December 2008

We approached JR West ticket counter to claim our Kansai Pass (to be used in 4 days). It didn't subway lines. Oh well. We visited Umeda Sky Floating Observatory. Note: take central north exit at JR Osaka station and take underground walkway. The views was amazing and looking down was spectacular, especially over the escalator. lol. Then hopped over to beautiful Osaka Castle. Magnificent looking building and so historical beyond our imagination. Love the exhibit displays of samurai traditional gear and miniature version of the castle. To end the day off, we walked around Namba. The market alley ways of Sennichimae-dori and dondenbori, Takashiyama dept store, Namba Walk (a very long underground mall connected to many subway stations), Europe street, Amerikura area, and the 100 YEN shop. The 100 YEN was very cool, it stocked from basic house utensils to stuff for healing tired sore feet. Popular branded snack food (Pocky), Hello Kitty, and Tara panda stationary/toys.

No benches can be found on any street. People sat on concrete garden bed fenches made of bricks. People in Osaka used bicycles heavily and they would normal gear, some even wore heels and business suits. No helmets. Padestrians and bicycles were in harmony, no road rage found here. many would ride slowly on the footpath, which many of footpaths in Osaka were
wide, I mean wide. So wide they don't need bike lanes or bike path. They have structure, order, and well mannered citizens even among the over crowding areas. On the elevator the people stood on the right, while peole on the left walked up. Here in Australia left side is for standing still and the right was for people who were in a rush.

26 December 2008

My sister and I went to Kyoto Station and on our way it began to snow lightly but icy cold. It was the first day of snow in that area. The people on the train was amazed by it too, as everyone looked out the window. For us, who never goes to ski or hang out in Dangenong ranges or Mt Buller, it was special. I felt snow flake for the first time and had some jab my eyes. Very beautiful and indeed moves like Sakura dance style. We changed trains to Nara line, here we learnt what the symbols on the platforms meant, the circle is for ordinary/local line, the triangle is for rapid/special rapid lines, but I forgot what the arrow ones meant. ha ha. These symbols on the floor would match up with the corresponding train door, before the door we would form two queue/lines and let people alight before boarding. So far we have not being squished in rush hours, we tend to catch 9am onwards and 9pm onwards back home.

Inari was a old style town in Kyoto, no footpath, lots of curvy hilly tiny streets, and it was authentic styling houses and shops. We didn't take snap shots of people homes due to privacy and that it is considered rude. Fushimi inari shine was GRAND! We went for a trek following the numerous tori and steps up the hill and back down. It felt like a bush walk because of the surrounding trees and dry landscape. Many tome stones on this hill. We did our tiring best to surpass them to get to the good view on top. We prayed and placed money in the hondo hall's box. I purchased a 'get well' charm for myself and 'avoid disasters' for mom. Sis was more keen into keyring and purchase a cute froggy keyring ('money returns, money is frog' more or less you give, you get in return.)

We headed back to Kyoto station, caught Sagano line, off at Enmac and switch to bus 205. Catching the bus in Kyoto was an experience in itself, as there were no instruction on how to pay. The bus had two slots, one for spitting out change it has nomies of 500, 100, 50, while the other near the driver was where you drop JPY 220. Ah. Lessen learnt the hard way. Sis was embrassed and to be told off twice.

Kinkakuji temple was beautiful as the sunset upon it, shines evermore, definitley glimmered over the pond. The pond was filled with ducks and fish. Lots of other tourists were there too. The fun part was throwing coins into this rock bowl part of this rock sculpture and hoping to make it in, many of us failed to do so that arvo. Icy cold by 6pm, the sky had darken by then, headed back to Kyoto Station. At the station itself had lots of thinsg to see like the sky garden, glimpses of the Kyoto tower, railway lines, streets, amd a helicopter pad. The helicopter offered rides and people would line up for it. Under the helicoptor pad housed a department store called Isetan. We purchased Hello Kitty planner book and a teddy bear in kimono. Roamed Porta mall and The Cube.

Once we were back in Osaka, we went on Hep5 ferris wheel, on top of the building, and the view was goregous way to see Osaka at night. Wow. In the mall itself, we found a store called "3 coins", where if you purchase 1 item = 105 yen, two item = 315 yen, three items is 1050 yen. Pretty cool. It stocks mostly the basics and lots of nice accessories. We also saw 'plaza style', 'Disney store', and local brands. There was an underground mall connecting to another building and subway station. Colder than cold 3 degree by the EOD.

27 December 2008

Oh my calf muscle is in pain! Aw. SIs' calf muscle hurt as well. We can't give up now, we have came so far to give up. We zoomed off to Kameoka on Sangano line only t discover we have gone beyond by 1 stop. We U-turn to Umabori station, walked down the main road till we found Tokkuro Kameoka station (traditional brown wood and rusty) for the Scenic railway ride. The entrance is found once you pass the gift shop and go upstairs. You will notice on the station there sculptures of a creature with a white belly on a few of the stations it stops at on the way to Saga, apparently if you rub it will bring you good luck. The view was green lushes from top to bottom. We saw people on canoes, boats, and river side homes; we waved to all of them. Good fun. We took plenty of happy snaps.

At Sanjusangendo temple upon entry of the main temple, you had to remove your hat and shoes, you can wear brown slippers provided in plastic tub near carpet entry, also not allowed to take photographs. We saw 1000s of life size statutes of budda with many arms and a traditional Japanese garden. The variation of budda image statues were fascinating and spectacularly made, we prayed every step and donated at each hondo box. Before we reached Kiyomizu dera temple we kept stopping at each gift shop and food vendor stall. Sis ended up with a few cat toys and I purchased some good luck charms. I love the pumpkin seaweed bun and Sis had mushroom bun. Real juicy. Oh then we had toasted mochi on a stick covered in sweet soy sauce with sweet green tea. We did what the locals did free sample every mochi flavour on the counter. Yummy. Many of the locals could not resist these sweet mochi too. Kiyomizu dera was grand and offered lots of photo opportunities and plenty of mini temple to enhance your wish making and lucky charms. Many came asking for study and love. We saw the sun set and darken before us. The Gion-Shijo area had lots of local dishes and hand made krafts. Shijo street had expensive but glam stuff. Our stomachs were full but at Nishiki market I could not refuse such beautiful wagashi and cheese flavoured takoyaki. We chomp some more that evening.

28 December 2008

The sore feet, sore calf saga continues. It was tough going down the stairs. Gotta be strong. Headed to Shin Kobe's Nunobiki Herb Park and took the ropeaway cable car up to the top of the hill. At the top were a souvenir shop, yummy buffet restaurant housed in medieval building, and a fragrant museum. It totally blew my senses away. The food at the buffet were mostly vegetarian dishes but they were made deliciously and fulfilling. The perfumes smelling room of the fragrant museum was amazing. Ah... never smelt so many nice stuff in one session. We walked down to Herb park's glass house, it held unique flowers, rock water features, several court yards, historical tools used in this Herb Park. At Shin Kobe 100 YEN shop I stocked up Hello Kitty stationery. At Sannomiya we ate ice cream mochi: one raspberry crunch, one mango, and one green tea. Sis found the grean tea mochi ice cream a bit full on in flavour and bitter. I ended up globbling the lot and had grean mouth and teeth. lol. The winner is raspberry crunch flavour. Sis later went back for seconds on that one.

Kobe's Harbourland was beautiful and the place comes alive at night, the tree that line the main street lights up golden yellow, all of them and all the way to the ferris wheel. The street lamps resembled a flower. Very lovely. Heaps of male clothing in these malls and cheap priced shoes for all. We found heaps of cute toys, stationery, cool and trendy gear in Mosaic Garden area. Also saw the port tower, oceanic hotel, and boats that look like pirate ship. The harbour had a nice view. We ate Mos burger and Sis thought she ordered Coke Cola instead she ended up with cold coffee with mini tubs of milk. lol.

29 December 2008

Osaka harbour port at Osako subway station. There was a big giant ferris wheel and an aquarium (entry JPY 2,000 each). Outside of the aquarium was King penguin on parade 'live' and free. Wow. We saw the penguins poop, slide on cleaner areas, flap their wings, bend their necks to the side and sleep while standing upright. We side tracked to a mini animal zoo visit where we saw guinea pigs with HUGE eyes, hamster building a nest from wood chips, and monkey doing a marathorn of loops. At Namba we went underground Namba walk and ate Aburi mochi: one orange, one taro. Crispy texture. Then we got lost when we went above ground, walked back to Sennichimae, ended up in fresh seafood and pickles market. Which was interesting but not tasty as the food at Nishiki market. We ate takoyaki from a vending machine and it okay la.

In the European street area we found Sanrio gallery store (3 Floors of drool worth), Accessorize, Swatch, Nike, Apple store etc. SOGO dept store's 11th floor looked like mini Kyoto street fill with gift and handicraft vendors. The 14th floor was glamourous and too bad the roof garden was closed until mid January. Very posh. At the food basement level, we purchase mochi with stuffed strawberry inside it. The texture was ultra soft and too soft for my liking, turned semi gooey when held too long. Inside the dept we saw Juicy Coulture outlet and it stocked a lot more than what we seen in Australia, Sis paid for a snowflake charm necklace, after payment she was directed to the exit, was then handed her item in a bag and was thanked by the sales rep. We felt odd but at the same time felt like we were treated to upper class customer service. Very different to market stalls. Orange juice area this area in cafes was JPY 770. Ouch. We are use to paying JPY 120.

30 December 2008

Last day in Osaka. The streets leading to the Byodin temple was filled with green tea mochi, green tea soba noodles, green tea ice cream and of course, green tea.Byodin temple is located in Uji (Kyoto) and it was
glorious despite most of it has corroded over time. The museum showed us a video clip of what it used to look like in its hay days. The room oozed light from the mother pearl walls and gold embelishments. Heaps of other temples nearby however our feet cannot more stairs that goes up as high as hills. Kyoto main streets like many western cities dull grey but its smaller town like Inari and Uji are interesting. Kyoto area in general offers lots of traditional sweets, hand made crafts, nice frabics, tissue packet holders are pretty enough to show off.

I got myself a Hello Kitty in Icoca mascot costume as a memory of our time in Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe. There are many places we didn't visit due to time factor. Nara, Himeji Castle, Tennoji, Ginkakuji temple, Ryoan Temple, etc. Perhaps next time.

31 December 2008

Checked out of JHoppers and caught the early Shinkansen Nozomi to Tokyo. Tokyo and Ginza are covered heavily by international brand retail outlets and several Japan department stores. Very posh alright. Hakyhinkan Toy Park store houses Luccia club indeed has many minature
toy food, which I love, Sis managed to pick the right box contain macaroon tea cake display. Oh Yeah! Then we went browsing clothes in Harajuku, heaps of punk and goth stuff, some sporty and high end designer clothing. Nothing as wicked as Namba variety and cheaper prices.
By the time it was 5pm all stores closed early preparing for NYE 31st DEC 2008 and major clearance sale day on 2nd JAN 2009. Ginza quickly became a ghost town by 7pm. At Zojoji temple and Tokyo tower many hung out there, praying, wishing, taking photographs, meeting people,
buying good luck charms, and eating street vendor food. Food were swirly potato on a stick, yakitori, miso soup, takoyaki, etc. Sis and I joined a very long line of people queuing to enter Tokyo tower. When it came to
the count down at midnight Zojoji temple released its balloon hidden under a tent while Tokyo tower switched off its lights then once it ticked into the new year it turned back its lights to reveal the numbers 2009. There were small fireworks far off near Disneyland which is no where in Tokyo. Many of us were disappointed by it. 5 degrees at 1am. Many of the young
ladies attended Johnny's 2008 count down concert in Tokyo Dome City that night. Smart. They came out like droves when Sis and I got off at Suidobashi.

1 January 2009

A late start today 10am, so tired from NYE. Jimbocho connects to Shinjuku via subway without needing to transfer if you took JR but we had to put up with urine smells in subway. Total travel cost to Odakyu Tama Center was JPY 630. Odakyu was lushes green and the street off the station leads to Sanrio Puroland. Neat. SEGA amusement centre was not far off too. Admission to Sanrio Puroland was JPY 3,000 each. Upon entrance to the main hall, we saw Hello Kitty descend from the ceiling full of stars. We explorered all floors, all displays, took heaps of photos, and watched the "believe" song parade twice. We did a little purchase of Hello Kittty goods. We amanged to get our Hello Kitty coins etched with our names. There
were many kids and parents from overseas just to be here too. When we exited the place, it was night already, the trees and flowerish street lamps all lit up, so pretty.

2 January 2009

Clearance sale day. To answer your question, their sale was mad as our
boxing day sale. Only people queued up nicely and no stampede. They sold happy bags everywhere. Bags which contain varied goods and sold at units of JPY 5,000 or JPY 10,000. Yes, computers stores joined in too, in
Akihabara. Akihabara had plenty of maid cafes serving sandwiches. A few cosplays, who are usually sales rep. Ueno market is more suited to men clothing, families came in droves to the zoo nearby. In Shinjuku, more middle aged people and giant department stores. I went straight HMV and checked out the asian pop and rock music collection. Awesome. Shibuya not only had teens, but many couples too. Shibuya's 109 store was ultra
popular. Sis and I line up with the madness and checked out each store's happy bag. Sis and I had dinner at No English name vendor restaurant, where you ordered and paid at the vending machine, then collect ticket and hand it over the counter upon being seated. I had golden soup noodle
while Sis had plain chicken soup noodle. Mine was spicy! but not chilly hot and it didn't taste like curry. The place is near JR Shibuya station. We browsed Tokyu dept store, it had extensive stationery, and Japanese crafted paper. People clamoured to buy day planners, stickers of Mount Fuji and anything Hello Kitty stationery (adorable). lol. At Suidobashi station we bought Glico ice cream from a vending machine, it was cold and tasty. We have not found varied mochi flavours in Tokyo as yet.

3 January 2009

A few of Tokyo citizens did not wear mask or covered their mouth when coughing or sneezing in the train when next to me, as a result i caught the cold and coughs. We prepurchased our NEX ticket to Narita Airport for the 4th Jan and roamed Daimaru in Tokyo. Things were still on sale. Sis sussed the beanies, wallets, and more stationery. Nothing caught our eye that morning beside Anna Sui's embroided facial wash cloths.

Yurikomae line to Odaida does an interesting loop under the Rainbow bridge before entering the island and it felt as if you were on a roller coaster. So cool. Dashed off to Odaiba Park, Decks and Acqua city good
for people on budget and children keen on amusement centres. Venus Fort is for the fashion concious, the place had no windows, 1 major water feature the fountain, the place was made to look like streets of Europe. Now that made it interesting looking. We bypassed Toyota mega show room, it was HUGE! At the sky ferris wheel you get to choose 100% clear cage or coloured cage. We choose pink cage. Both costing JPY 900.The seats was heated up and we saw Fuji TV building, Rainbow bridge, Tokyo tower, Mt Fuji, etc. Too cold to walk along the fake beach. Odaiba maritime museum was actually a ship, which we saw people goe up
and down on it. Interesting container to house a museum.

To China town we go and meet up with my friend Ms. M at Motomachi via Mintomo line in Yokohama. Their the china town covered several streets. Many stall selling foods like buns and toy pandas. No asian grocery store. We had dinner at a family run traditional sushi bar. No sushi train and food is cut on demand. The raw seafood was delicious and I didn't have an allergic reaction compared to when I eat seafood in Melbourne. Um, it
makes me wonder about the difference in food preparation. Ms. M works in IT and said you can buy bulk shinkansen tickets. Oh I did not know that one. There was a direct line from Shibuya to Yokohama using Tokyu line in subway. Next time we might visit the doll museum. Not enough time today.

-----extra thoughts ----

* To avoid ending up buying fake version of famous brands, it is best to buy it in Japan. Lots of style, colour, and the country bans fake from entering the Japan. We enjoyed browsing international brands. Sis and i luvAnna Sui wallets and lipglosses.

November 2008

Whatever happened to me? Was I busy? Yes. Did I fall ill? Yes. Did I injure myself? Not on purpose, more like the case of transportation accidents. Say for instance you are on a tram and due to population issues, I had to stand; the tram slams on the brakes twice and I lost balance with this I would end up with a bruised hand or a shoulder or arm. In this case, I ended up hurting my neck! I cannot sit facing the computer without feeling nausea and so I've avoided long period of computer use. I stay on for less than an hour at best.

I blame immature car drivers that do U-turns on tram ways for my neck and shoulder injury. I blame taxi's for doing U-turns on Friday/Saturday nights for my bruise on my hand. Oddly, enough there is nothing you can do about these crimes. I mean, these reckless drivers are endangering and making healthy people semi disabled for what! For whose benefit, I dare to ask. There is no compo for such incidents on the roads, as they are all too common and too general as some pollys have stated.

I have spent most of my ill days holed up at home lying down listen to pod casts on Japanese phrases. On better days I would catch up with friends before the year is out or I play "Sacred 2: fallen angel" on the PC for an hour and no more.

October 2008

アリス九號 (Arisu kyugou) = Alice Nine

As of recent I have been fascinated by a jrock band, they are part of the visual kei movement, which is an unknown in the western world. I love ALICE NINE and their costumes, i am so jealous of their jackets, totally want to get myself a copy. Perhaps one day they would have an exhibition like Kylie Minogue had for her video clip and concert outfits. Seriously, their music is a great fusion of Japanese and rock. Some elements of Korn and Linkin Park yet unique.

"Ruri no ame" is the song that first caught my attention when accidentally stumbled upon while searching for audio and video clips on japanese language. The video clip is like a reminiscent  of Kyoto's summer, nevermind the fact i never been there in Japan during summer but the video transports you there, and to find the lyrics mentions summer, summer rain, it all comes into place. So serene. We are short of summer rain in Melbourne. Lol.

The others songs I have come to adore are "rainbow", "tsubasa", "blue planet", "eraser", and "cosmic world". My ears have yet to adjust to "kousai" and "velvet", and so on.

Somehow I prefer checking social networking site updating my status or wall comments via my mobile. However, when it comes to uploading files or downloading i prefer using the PC/laptop. I like things that are nomad and mobile connected web applications. Sorry, to those who wanted me to sign up to FanBox Tagged, Friendster, Myspace, VOX, Bebo, LiveJournal, and so on. I can be so lame.

September 2008

6th September, Spirit of Tasmania the ship had an open day by invitation only. My father, mys sister and I went to check it out. There was food sampling, tourist activity promotion, and accommodations plus resorts. The ship was enormous and glamorous on the inside. The rooms look like a decent hotel room. En suite included as well. The fresh air on the upper deck was sea salty slightly chilly cold but refreshing. After months of work on the land, some sea side break away is nice.

The neighbour without permission drilled and bolted a 2m iron gate against my property and yes, it swings open against my wall. You can feel the earthquake when it slams. Mom and the neighbour negotiated to move the gate against the bordering wooden fence for good measure. What else would the neighbour do behind our backs, eh? Damage to property is unlawful!

13th September, 7:45am Sha Sha our family pet guinea pig died of a heart attack. A sad time for us all, especially mom and my sister, they took it pretty bad.

FYI.See most world monuments in miniuate style

26th September, Unconfence web 2.0 "Learn through play".
Upon entry is registration of name and sign permission to have your picture taken during this conference. In the foyer you can see Wii Sports was setup for use and so was Wii fit in another section of the foyer. We all congregated in the community room, here we were introduced to the concept of unconference and the general principles.

We had to sort our selves into a group of 10 people and everyone in that group must not know each other. Then we told to allocate a person from our group to be the pilot. hee hee. in my group there was only 1 guy and we all instant named him our pilot. Each group was given paper, elastic bands, and sticky tape. The goal was make a missile and see which one flew the most furthest. The group that made the big paper ball flew the furthest. Our group got noted for looking most anaesthetic of all missiles. hee hee. While those who threw the sticky tape was ingenious but was disqualified. After that butcher paper (big white post it notes) was laid on the ground with colour markers. We are all asked to write down topics of interest which is related to Internet and library. Bold and not knowingly I wrote down "information overload and that we need to keep it simple for staff and patron" in this modernity. Once all the topics are hung up in the window and being rearranged, they were allocated into time slots, and you who wrote the topic was to mediate the session. Quite the shock. I have not prepared anything nor was i ready to wing it. Luckily for me I had Zoe help me out and we co-host mediated the session.

The session opened with too much online products, Internet progression drives the change of services, then organisational change is bound to follow suit. But we are more or less not prepared for the change of our traditional roles. Just because patrons have expectation of us should we bow down or should we be more diplomatic and be selective of what we should be expected to skilled in. Many patrons seem to treat us like computer technicians than librarians when it comes to Internet and computer problems. Many of the queries are not about the library website or online services. Also other organisations such as Tax Office and Immigration Office has pointed citizens to their local library to download or fill out forms online. However, library staff are not trained to do that due to privacy reasons and out of library services scope. Also people see the library not as the place to ask reference questions but a recreational place or Internet cafe.

Morning tea break with cookies and Wii.

I chose to attend MLC Skoolaborate session conducted by Mr. Westly (my bad spelling). Schools from all over the world come together online in Second Life environment yet Skoolaborate's portal to learn from each other or undertake educational units or explore or collaborate on projects or create online teams. Second Life uses PDT time (pacific daylight time). Skoolaborate aim to collaborate globally with other schools. He also showed us the potential future ways interaction in education and beyond.

mybusuu.com language garden website where students from overseas can teach local aussie students their language and we teach them English in return.

Teachers still have a role in class, they act as mentors, guiding students at the beginning and assisting where necessary but ultimately students in class are expected to self educate and have initiative to google and search for more materials online while in class.

Lunch break.

PLCMC now Charlotte Mecklenburg library showed us how public library operated in the USA, in their state anyway. 24+ branches, 1.5 million floating collection, partnership with high schools and companies in the area. Lots of community support and donation to the library. Not too far from the library is Imagine On library only for children and no adults. Here kids and teens can explore reading material, computers, gaming zone, make their own stories or music videos, etc. Also two theatres dedicated to showing plays for children. All round full on interaction for the young ones.

Afternoon tea.

Mp3 and mobile computing session. More and more people are owning a mobile phone or a mp3 player, we question how can libraries supply to these audiences and communicate with them. Audio book is one, Overdrive the American company supplies plenty of titles but not many Australian titled books. We question about patrons copying these mp3s (against copyright regulations)  and also that we cannot bookmark them as we can easily do with a printed version of the book. We talked of the Daisy format which VisionAustralia is currently using which requires a Dairy reader device. Sms overdue notices especially for teenagers. Cable issues with mp3 players and itune required for ipods, bluetooth enabled computers for mobile phone which can read mp3 files. Should library be considering these technical problems with gadgets when targeting younger patrons who are gadget obsessed? To what extent should a library commit to these formats and gadgets when they phase our in quick successions?

A sea of faces, only recall a few names, I'd like to thank Linda [MPri], Margie[VU], Dence[EGipp] for nice chats we had. The conference was very engaging and I learnt a lot about library doing their best be relevant in the modern society.

Sorry for any spelling mistakes on the blog.

We watched forbidden kingdom and pow the fight scene between Jet Li and Jackie Chan was like a dream come true. The story line was cheesy but overall fun and magical. We liked movies so much my sister and I go on to buy a few dvds from JB Hi-Fi sale, they had a special offer of "buy 3 and get the last one free".

Francis, Sis, and I attended Outdoor-Indoor cinema screening LoudQUIETloud which was a documentary of the band PIXIE from USA. Oh gosh, do they have strong lyrics and guitar use in all their songs. I see where Nivarna got their music influence from, PIXIE. hee hee.

Most weekends I hang with my dad around shopping centres and shopping district. Of course, my sister tags along too. There were one or two weekends I spent a whole Saturday playing "God of War" PS2. The story is amazingly detailed and enticing and it gave my family revisions about the Greek gods.

Planning a trip brings joy and pain, oh the information and the forms. Ugh. Next month I will going to a free tour of the ship "Spirit of Tasmania". How cool is that?

July 28, 2008

July was bam shazzam movie month

My sister and i watched: don't mess with the zohan, hancock, get
smart, and the dark knight. Also attend an art forum called 'art aloud
- parallel views', listen to 'flashpoint reading of 3 plays', and
eharmony group activity @ NGV.

Heath Ledger was amazing in his performance as the joker, you actually felt the angst and danger when his character was present and he was very much into his character. Not one second did he sound the Heath we know from the earlier days. My favourite film starring Heath is "10 things i hate about you". It was an introduction to a clever witty handsome actor I have come to know and respect. I was devasted and definitely shocked by his death and angry at Ms. O for not getting emergency help quick enough. Aussie actor are worth gold, more than you will ever be.

For SATA HDD to be read or detected by motherboard. you would need to [1] create floppy disk with bootdrv files from chipset on motherboard CD [2] unplug IDE HDD cables 1st, format the SATA HDD or not [3] go to CMOS select Advance settings, select SCSI drive to boot 1st [4] plug IDE HDD cables back in and restart computer.

May MADDNESS

Work has been hectic and a few items gone AWOL.

Then there is the issue of Broadband modem never arrived to my house yet the ISP said Alexi and Oyakmah had sign off saying modem has been received. WHOEVER the HELL these two people are, they are NOT ME, that's for sure. Why should I pay for a modem I NEVER received and service I CANNOT USE?!

Outside of work and home realm is booking tables at restaurants, for some places FRIDAY and SATURDAY are OFF LIMITS. So unheard of! Anyways, there are many other delightful places to eat.

FYI. BYO modem only!

Self NOTE: I have to EAT oats to settle the stress in my stomach. I haven't had much interest in eating or sleeping this month. Although I did drink heaps of Boost Juice.

Dim lights in rooms puts into Zzz mode. Ugh.

Movies I have seen this month were 'Deception', 'Ironman', and 'Indiana Jones & the crystal skull'.

Zooey Deschanel is a cool actress!

April buzz

April is all about work. I learnt about legal loose leaf service, international interlibrary loan procedures, and what's exactly involved when changing work procedures. The formality was unfolded before my eyes and i have greater respect for managers who undertake such responsibility. We as staff get to be part of that process of change, here at SLV my opinion and ideas matters, that is by the far the coolest thing. The meetings were intense but you get to see where things are going and you do you darn best to comprehend, communicate, and compromise. The procedure is being drafted and to be refined in weeks to come. The procedure is coded as "Internal Loans". The two divisions (mine and another) that usually supervises loans are having discussion with upper management about this procedure but this procedure affects the whole organisation. wow.

From the training session on deal with difficult situations, i will need to learn to evaluate situations and be more resilient.

At home my brother and mother don't believe in using their wardrobe. So you can expect to see their dusty clothes laying about and clogging up space. If you try to lift any of these clothes, they give you a scolding, whatthe!
The only things I can control are my desk, wardrobe, and my well being; and ignore the mess.

March to my own beat

Aroma party. There was this book and box of cards talking about chaka and aroma oil abilities. I drew three cards from the box and Mr SR made me concotion consist of rose, spearmint, and patchouli into a massage oil roll on bottle. Rose for the heart, spearmint for disgestive system, and patchouli for alertness/clarity. Smells like toothpaste/nail polish/just spearmint dominant. lol. Overall good stuff.

2008 products i like so far are:_

Clinique Super city block sheer oil free daily face protector spf 30+

Ultraceuticals skin care range (for acne)
Pupa gloss chic ref. 028309 / D329
菊花茶
Crayon Shinchan comics.
Brown Brothers moscato late harvest 2007 [dessert wine]
more ... *drools*

I went to seminar held by Mortgage Choice for first home buyers. Of course, i don't fit the first buyer's category, more or less i'm a spectator, still i wanted to hear how mortgages are handled and applied to property ownership. There is so much more than just application for a mortgage and paying back with interest. Mortgage choice called in special guests, a rep from consumer affairs in property sector and two solicitors from R&G. Very impressive. Knowing key terms helps when dealing with vendors, contracts, banks, and whether a method of sale (private sale/auction) coincide with your ideals.

The key words used were:

letter of offer
deposit bond
stamp duty
contract of sale [!!! be weary of]
contract notes (addition from private sale)
contractual inclusions (more areas to be concerned about)
vendor statement (doco given to you in reagrds to the property)
vendor countersigns the contract (officiation the sale of property)
section 32 of the Sale of Land Act
POA = price on application
solicitor (for reading the various document & process doco)
conveyancer (processing property transaction documents)
property valuation
caveats (3rd party interest in property)
convenants (land restriction)
section 173 agreements (council&developer&owner comply)
easements (3rd party access your property, eg. plumbing pipes)
GST (does it apply & is it well catered esp new property)
settlement

note: auction does not have cooling off period but you are allowed to ask for contract of sale weeks before the actual auction day.

The seminar was useful and informative, and there was good demonstrations of mortgage repayments calculations. Say if you were buying pre-owned property versus buying a new plot of land. I must say my salary is too low for a mortgage repyments. i might need to reconsider my career and lifestyle.

Easter long weekend was good. Friday was hot as ever i did get the chance to sleep in and watch my siblings' latest anime volume: mushi, eureka7, and school rumble. Wonderful tales. Funny and some shocking moments.

The ferris wheel ride after work with Mr. SR, Mr. CM, Ms. FMS, and my sister was fun. An unexpected surprise! Something about being suspending in the air brings excitement to us humans. I want to thank Mr. CM for organising the fun outing. For dinner we had buffet at Sante, Crown casino. We tottally stuffed ourselves. hee hee.

Funny February 2008

Saturday 16th

After getting off the flight, my ears were muffled but i try not yell at people asking for direction or buying airport link ticket. The ears cleared up after i had sneezed. I headed straight to the hostel and the place i stayed at was neat, efficient, and friendly. I rented a locker to store my lugguage as check in was not until later in noon.

I decided to go for a walk. I strolled down George street into Myer and DJones for handbag drool session, i somehow ended up in DJ shoe dept looking at a small fashion show (which was not busy), then headed over to men's dept to say "hi?" to my friend Mr.A. Oh gosh, he was ultra busy. I decided to go in search bus 325 bus stop around William street (never been there) only to find it was on Elizabeth street. ah ha. I hurried back to the hostel to check in and called Mr.MHC to hang out in the city.

Sunday 17th

My Watson Bay adventure. Now that i know where the bus stop was and i have my ticket, i take my chances and see where it ends. The bus terminated at precisely at the right spot I was seeking, yay. It only took 30mins which is normal. It did not take long as some tourist mentioned online. Geez, i'm bloodly early. Yet, wow, the views here is great it reminds me of Torquay. I took some windy shots of the bay, view of Sydney tower and harbour bridge.

While i sat on a bench waiting for my friend, Ms.RL and her friends, a family approached me to see if i was planning to use the picnic table, i nicely informed them i'm not, then they ask me if is it okay that i mind the table for a while and i agreed. hee hee.

Lunch @ Waston Bay Hotel was good and Ms.RL's friends' babies were the entertainment and main topic. The babies would delight us with their curiousity and such calmness in their behaviour amongst this noisy open area. I was amazed and so were the parents. One baby pushed over his mother's 1st and 2nd glass of lemonade twice but oddly the baby didn't push any other bottle or glass. A toddler was even funnier he would push his car toys over the table and get female waiters to pick it up for him yet he didn't do that when male waiters came by. lol. We took lots of kodak moments shots.

Ms.RL and I walk and climbed up over the gap bluff. Took some happy snaps. When you look closely at the rocks, looks as if they got carved but colouring of the rocks seem more like water corrosion. Nice of my friend to drive me to my cousin's place.

My cousin's baby is so cute and smart. He is good at shredding tissue and making it seem fun. Oh he points to things before reaching for them. We had dinner with aunty and uncle @ D&D. Steak was way too meaty for me. Quality time well spent. The baby sure got all of our attention. He tends to have an itchy feet. A drink kicker.

Overall the trip was short but sweet!

notes: ppl I've meet along the way. Ben/Sarah, Adam/Belinda, Michael, Nick/Helen, Robyn. Teja-Marissa-Holley-Timmy-Fiona quit Civica.

January 2008

Our summer is experiencing a uppy and down kind of weather, too bad the 20 degrees weather is non-existence since climate change occurred. now the range are 30~41 degrees, then there's sharp 10 degrees and heavy rain, enough to crack a tile. ouch.

I'm working in a real library now which is wonderful and a sea change from call centres and helpdesk. Now i will start working my career path in this direction yet keeping IT as a hobby, just to be up to date with all the modern fuss. lol.

It seems the feeling of a having a crush on someone, like when you were in high school, is is more intense when you get older. Amazing feeling. Something that hasn't been triggered within me for a while. hee hee.

There is this Hong Kong singer 張敬軒 who I'm keen and have a celeb-crush on. I have seen him before in the film "moments of love" and thought 'aww what a cutie', now i think of him as a 'hottie who is also intelligent'. *drools* I cannot stop listening to his songs, especially 'adrently love' 酷愛 song. Here are some pics of him.

Also I have been self studying Web 2.0. Overall, mashed up applications are cool but whether you want to be member for everything that is out there online is a bit of an ask to spread yourself too thinly and also not to forget high maintenance. Here is a link to the other blog where i gave my two cents about each session. http://melslv.blogspot.com/

Rabbits are so cute when they press themselves against the window and do a belly rub dance. So cute. They look adorable when they stand up as well.

December 2007

I have being to several places while crusiing through December and here is the list:

1. Eureka Tower (aka sky deck 88) with friends.
2. Chadstone shopping centre by bus 767 with sis.
3. Southland Shopping Centre by bus 631 with sis.

Looking down from Eureka Tower I see lots of dry gardens and interesting roof tops. Although the Yarra river water is murkey from Eureka tower it sparkled with the help of the sun of course. Going by bus to distant shopping centres we get more time to browse, as we don't have bro/dad rushing us to go home and i must say without a time limit on you don't end up implusively buying unwarranted items. My sister and I ended soaking up the atmosphere and participate in other services than just 'purchasing'. nice.

My most prized purchase would be a mini digital frames/clock.

There is a f*k up site which is notorious for defamation of ppl www.sexualrelationship.databse.com beware of such fraudsters.

Things to remember:
1. Werribee zoo bus 439 does not operate on Sundays.
2. Hadouken = fireball aka punch (street fighter).
3. MMS must be under 100KB.
4. Melbourne Cup winner was number 6 horse 'efficient'. Followed by [2] no 12 purple moon, [3] no 24 malher, and [4] no 9 zipping (my horse lost).
5. IME and fb combo winner is Chinese (Taiwan) and New Changjie. Apparently, Chinese PRC and MS pinyin IME doesn't display too well. Oh well.
6. Sound vs spell: for-ca-za vs Foccia.
7. PC issue: if it keep rebootn. Set 2 reboot fr CD. Reformat HDD. Therefore backup weekly.
8. 3G fone as modem to PC:Ntwk conn -> create a new conn -> conn2Net -> setup my conn manu -> conn using a dialup modem -> select modem w/ ph title as usb -> config dialup number as *99# -> U+P = Vodafone -> copy/shortcut 2 desktop.

Distorted September cleared by October

My mind set was experiencing this overwhelming need or feeling "I would rather be home than at work" in August/September. Before 2007 I was never bored of repetition but in 2007 it made me ill and everything around me tasted bland. When i did work for Telstra mobile late September/October I feel empowerment and in control again. I was able to tailor my calls to customers and focus on delivering on the spot. The product flaws did not bother me as they will addressed by the evening, aka immediately in real time instead of months or years later as in my last job. As a team nothing is impossible in UCMS. Now i'm looking for a new challenge.

September 06, 2007

August was ignored and now it is September 2007

Oh i'm not much a frequent blogger. What i did in that course of time? Play games of course. Atelier Iris 3: grand phantasm. A very intriguing simple RPG game. Lots of funny situations, especially the part of baking a cake or find receipes to use alchemy to make newer items. Soon I'll be spending my time playing Sim2's bonvoyage . Woopie!

Oh i did watch a dvd, such as "Pursuit of hapiness", it made me cherish my life even more. I'm gonna be weary of business that swindle your hard earnt cash. Also I watched "Borne ultimatum" with FHS and work mates. It was one wicked film, kicks ass at each stage; and Mr.Borne is handsome and a capable man.

September evaluation and spring cleaning time. I question myself what do i like/want/need/enjoy? Since i'm an action person, I have nabbed a new job with help from a friend, cancelled flickr [display issues: 3-6 sets only + no more], signed up to facebook, and updated theme on my mobile phone. You ain't living unless things around you are what you wanted.

Notes: RFID is inserted in transit cards of Japan's SUICA, Hong Kong's OCTOPUS card, and London's OYSTER card.

July 2007

I had enough of whenever twats that happens to have a 8:30am start as well as I do, they somehow think they deserve priority. I have been attending to 8:30am starts since 2003. God damn it. The twat pees all over the toilet floor @ home which i had to F* clean up before I can use it. The twat hogged 30mins of bath room time. The twat ain't no chick. All unnecessary delay leaves me no time for hair styling or breakfast. Unless I wake up earlier, again unnecessarily!

Words that interests me: Emancipated minor = made/given a full adult status

Our PC was getting rubbish alert about registry files, so I re-configured the firewall, check connection method, a full scan on spyware and virus, then last step the long defraging part. I nicked off to another room to listen to music and write letters while the PC takes its time. Mom opens the door and says the PC is done or something, she walks in the room but doesn't get out of way from the door, I had to squeeze my way out [oddly] then she slams the door on my back. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I yelped in PAIN and swore MADLY @ her. What is the BIG idea! I proceed to tend to the PC, it was done with defrag, I tested connection and all is cool again no alert crap and so I switched the PC off. I walk back into the room only to find mom again at the doorway AGAIN and she is NOT getting out of the room not yet anyway. I told her to F*** off for F*** sake. I don't need crap "sorry" for a deliberate ATTACK of that sort! I have NO idea what i did to deserve that crap. SO MENTAL!

Why do i need to wake up way too early, for what? just because a twat wants to wake up at 6am, so another twat bugs me to wake up too. Ugh!
I start work @ 8:30am too but i always get up @ 6:55am for 10mths now. I don't like being RUSHed, badly dressed, missing stuff i need, and be angry just to be put on snail trail path. I opted to my way, my time, and my decision. Sure I don't have enough for a big breakfast/big breakfast chat. Do I care? I'm an evening person. Unnecessary wake up call.

Overall the start to July is painful on the body so far. My soul lives on and still kicking as it has goals of its own.

I got myself a Three's prepaid SIM kit and only to find out no mobile internet service is given to 'prepaid', only allowed if you are on contract plans, and if on cap plan mobile web is charged on top of the cap. No WAP as it doesn't have a GPRS due to no GSM as an alternative network. Quite a disappointment. Also I now see why people complained about Three's coverage, the roaming part is high on costs [Telstra], and you can lose reception indoors as well. Sad. To add to that you cannot use the USIM in a 2G mobile phone if your 3G handset breaks down. Ugh! OMG. Luckily I did not sign up for contract as yet and only mucked with SIM start up kit. VF still rocks.

Harry Potter and the order of phoenix was a splendid film, the story is closing in on some mystery yet opening a whole heap of questions at the same time.

The Simpson movie was awesome and the texture used in the film for animation feels lively. kinda like Sly Racoon. It has a classic feel yet updated and modern. The plot was controversal but interesting what pig 'crap' can do to the environment.

I hate it when illness takes away your independence and freedom. I had tonsillitis.

Note to self:
DO NOT let mom cut my hair [short], she doesn't know how to trim nothing.

June 28, 2007

June was wearily icy cold

I know it is winter and all, but does it have to be so icy cold that you need bomber jackets to keep you warm. I find it a struggle to wake up and even wash my face. Plain cold water feels sharps. Despite that I did go shopping, hang out with a new bunch of people who I met from Japanese language club, and watch a movie or two. I am keen on smart phones but haven't found one that has good battery, camera with flash included, doco editor that displays Chinese and Japanese. sigh. YouTube is interesting, I did not you can record adverts and upload online without fear of infringing copyright. hee hee.

April, May, ... 2007

I am having a blank mind in regards to opinions as I am hurting all over, ever since the back of my right foot made friends with uneven footpath, I then proceeded to have knee aches and lower back muscle ache, not long later my shoulder and neck ended up strained. I ate more N* asprin than I have ever had in the past. Several acupuncture appointments and many days knocked out by pain killers. Despite all that, when you have made promises to people, you smile through agony and be there in support of them. If I am not asleep I went to charitable BBQ socccer, b'day clubbling with mates, light shopping, and rent DVDs. Life is going well, I can't ask for perfection except the odd leeway. lol.

'Tuesday 24 Anzac eve' was my friend Mr.S b'day. We went clubbing for celebration. There was 3 segments of performance by unique drag queens of the night. One segment where we did wooing sounds loudly to hot guys on stage being judged for hotness. We lost in the prize draw - Pink concert tickets. We then nicked off to KFC for snack and zipped in a Taxi to crown for a bit of gamble. Rachelle put in $10 and won $80. Nice.

Reminder: Time to make appt for flu vaccination

April 02, 2007

End of March 2007

March 2007 was mostly spent following post dental surgery rules:
1]Bleeding occurs in the 1st 24/48hrs use cotton gauze to soak up the blood.

2]Take soluable pandol and Di-gesic pain killers
3]Use antiseptic mouth wash 3 times a day
4]Avoid ver hot/cold food and drinks
5]Eat soft food
6]Avoid vigorous exercise and minimize talking during this time.

After surgery the anaesthetic wore off, surge of pain rush to the left side of my face and my head throbs with pain. Took many soluable pandols. Nothing cann distract you from such pain. My cheek was very swollen. I mumble when i speak for the first 3 days. I survived on congee and mash potato as my staple meals, while Continental's instant soup was my snacks. Basically i mashed and slurp my food/medicine. I found it difficult to open my mouth any wider, brushing teeth was excruciating painful. The internal bits of my mouth were very sore. It hurts to yawn or look up [i had to bend my back to see stuff on walls].

I was pretty much sleep deprived. I would end up with fever. I was never too far from a bin in case of nausea and vomit caused by pandol and di-gesic's drowsiness. At times the pain is unbearable I usually won't fall asleep until 6am and or on a sunny day sleep only in the warmth of afternoon sunshine with my cat, Mimi.

After 3 dental surgery your gums are weaken to the state where you find it difficult to chomp on certain solid foods. My stitches are utmost important and needs to maintained to i avoided food that breaks in sharp pieces in my mouth. When you have wounds most foods feel like they are sharp.

--- on another topic: Internet Marketing Conference Dinner- March 2007.

My sister and I was invited to an evening conference dinner to learn and discuss about marketing online. It was sponsored by StoresOnline who is a host server, program websites, and create store fronts.cf.
www.StoresOnlinePro.com

We learnt 3 kerwords to luring ppl to your website: Find it, Like it, and buy it. Then the speaker [M.Blake] talked about needing:
*Make dough 24/7 all year round
*Strategies
*Drop shipping
*Shopping cart
*Permission email mktn
*Epublishing
*Website - give something for free + used the word "free"
*Out smart search engines with powerful words
*Affilate programs
*Database integration
*Tools and support [work shop sign ups]

Overall the information session was mild and the 3 course dinner was delicious, lots of lemon zest oil used on all dishes. hee hee.

This was found in someone's call centre job's exit form, that was forwarded to me: RTFM stands for "read the f*** manual". lol.
