Living away from home is not so bad. I'm learn to pick my own fruit and vegetables. Cook delicious dishes for one using the microwave. It is nice not having to arrange house repairs and pay monthly bills, when all is included in the rent.

Thesis, thesis, and more thesis. Learning to develop better thesis statement was no easy task for someone who was not familiar with writing one. In the past, lecturers would hand out a list of topics and we would fight it out. After we have finally settled on a topic. We would read up on books, newspapers, journals, and write an essay. At no point were we advised to write up a thesis statement. Often we would write up our first main point in our introduction before filling in the gaps of the essay. A lecturer once commented on my class mate's essay was equivalent to a dog's breakfast. You could say essay writing skills was not well taught in the 1990s. However, much has changed in the last decade. My latest class has proven to be very useful and relevant in essay writing, to the point where I enjoy writing a thesis statements. I think, I am on the right track. Encapsulating all the arguments in concise manner into one sentence has been challenging to do. To keep myself on track. I have decided to keep notes on my blog, so that I can read it at anytime and anywhere. I hope you will find it useful too.

Tip: a thesis is a declarative sentence that takes a stance.

Tip: The thesis statement must assert your point, suggest your evidence, and structure your argument, all in one. This is necessary for a good reason. If you can summarize your paper in one sentence, you’re more likely to have a tightly-constructed, concise, and readable essay.

Tip: An argumentative paper makes a claim about a topic and justifies this claim with specific evidence. The claim could be an opinion, a policy proposal, an evaluation, a cause-and-effect statement, or an interpretation. The goal of the argumentative paper is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided.
